Prague in the rain

This morning after having slept heavily (after yesterday's exhausting day) we got up and made our way back to the bakery we went to yesterday morning (it was that good).  I got the croissant with chocolate and Sabrina got another tart type thing.  It was a different person serving us today, and we worked out that the lady from yesterday had completely ripped us off, and the guy today charged us normal prices!  I went back for another croissant.  Yes I ate two.  The coffee wasn't as good as yesterday's though.

Then we made our way to the Jewish Quarter, and after going around in circles, finally asked a South African woman, who was most helpful (her husband was in Prague for a conference), and we got there.  By this time however, it was raining.  Not really heavily, but incessantly.  Neither Sabrina or I were keen to see all the museums, but it was a fixed price ticket to go see the Jewish Cemetery and and four Synagogues.  We made our way to the Cemetery (which I had seen been), and it literally took my breath away.  It was as I remembered it, only bigger.  I explained to Sabrina that all the tomb stones had shifted because of the movement of the earth due to the number of bodies buried there.  When I stood there and looked at the place and thought about this fact, it chilled me to the bone.

After that we were back in the Old Town Square and we stopped for a coffee, and I had a slice of apple strudel to boot!

The rest of the day comprised of wandering around, stopping to get out of the rain, browsing shops, being grateful that we had seen as much as we had on the first two days, talking about not being able to orient oneself in Prague, finding short cuts we wish we knew about yesterday and eating.  I wanted to go see the 'Cubist Lampost' (I know, how exciting, but it was pretty cool), so we made our way there and stumbled upon a pretty amazing church (we hadn't been going into churches in Prague because they all charged fees, and we figured 'see one, see them all').  In this area of the lamp post, there was also a random piano placed in a park, and people would just walk by, sit, and start playing.  This one girl was pretty darn good too.

We also saw the 'paint a brick' wall again today (we saw it on Saturday), and I saw that someone had painted a brick on my behalf, which was really nice of them:

This photo was taken of Saturday's wall.  Today's wasn't as big.

We also looked for the 'man hanging out' (David Cerny), but buggered if we could find him.  I've almost convinced myself he's not here any more.  Actually, maybe he's just being exhibited somewhere else at the moment.  I haven't seen as much David Cerny work as I would have liked, maybe I have to come here again on a David Cerny tour!

At lunch (and this post isn't necessary written in time/event order) we sat down at a place, and we weren't happy about the service and menu, so I suggested we leave.  Sabrina was too embarrassed to, but we did and had a good laugh about it.  Then we just grabbed a hot dog (kransky), from a kiosk in the old town square.  Delicious!

We will still both very sore from yesterday so we headed back to the apartment early, Sabrina packed her bag and we talked for a while before I walked her down to the metro and we said goodbye.  :(

I wandered through a shopping centre close to the apartment on the return, and no dinner for me!  Despite me being very hungry right now!  Croatia tomorrow.  And in three weeks exactly, I will be home.  Yikes.
